Report: Future of Jobs – Trends in the labor market

Technological change, geo-economic fragmentation, economic uncertainty, demographic changes and environmental sustainability – both individually and in combination – are among the main factors that will shape and transform the global labor market by 2030.

The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025 brings together the perspectives of over 1,000 leading global employers from a range of industries and economies. The report examines how these macro trends will impact jobs and skills and what strategies employers plan to develop in response by 2030.

Core results

  • By 2030, the digital transformation will fundamentally change 60% of companies, particularly through AI, big data and cyber security, which will massively increase the demand for corresponding skills.
  • The climate crisis will shape key fields of work by 2030, including renewable energies, autonomous driving and environmental technology. Environmental management skills will be among the most important skills of the future.
  • Rising living costs and economic uncertainty will make adaptability and creative problem-solving essential by 2030, as many companies will have to adapt their business models.
  • By 2030, technological developments and demographic changes will reshape the labor market, with a net increase of 78 million jobs, with healthcare, education and technology occupations growing particularly strongly.
  • Around 40% of today’s skills will be obsolete by 2030, while analytical thinking, lifelong learning and technological skills will remain the most important requirements.
  • By 2030, almost 60% of the workforce will require further training, with 11% risking their employment without retraining. Employers are planning to specifically retrain employees and redirect them into growing fields of work.
  • Diversity, health promotion and fair pay strategies will be key factors in attracting and retaining talent by 2030, with a clear focus on inclusive working environments and long-term workforce development.
