Report: 18 arenas of competition in the future

The McKinsey Global Institute report describes a new category of industries that will significantly change the future corporate landscape and transform the world, so-called “arenas of competition”.

The authors of the study have identified 18 potential arenas of the future that are set to reshape the global economy and generate revenues of 29 to 48 trillion US dollars by 2040. These arenas range from AI software and services, electric vehicles and robotaxis to robotics, the space economy and modular construction. Their share of global GDP is set to rise from the current four percent to between ten and 16 percent.

Companies that invest in these arenas at an early stage and drive innovation have the opportunity not only to achieve high profits, but also to play a decisive role in shaping the direction of global competition.”
